Horrible Bosses (2011)

7 Nov

I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting to see Horrible Bosses, ever since the previews were showing on TV.  Since I don’t make it to the theater too often, I was SUPER excited last night to discover it on OnDemand.

Unless you live under a rock, you probably already know that Horrible Bosses is a comedy starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis, each of whom has a truly horrid boss.  Jason Bateman’s boss (played by Kevin Spacey) is micromanaging, demanding and evil,  Jason Sudeikis’ boss (played by Colin Farrell) is an incompetent cokehead, and Charlie Day’s boss (played by Jennifer Aniston) is a sexually harassing maniac.  The guys hit their breaking point, and decide they HAVE to murder these monsters, and they hire a “murder consultant” (played by Jamie Foxx) to help them get it done.

The film was filled with actors I love, playing roles that are just perfect for them.  There was a big hubbub over Aniston playing a “bad girl,” but for some reason I thought she had already broken away from that stereotype (?) I mean, I remember how my world turned upside-down the first time I heard Bob Sagat say the f-word, but seeing Aniston crawl over Charlie Day was nowhere near as shocking.

I don’t think Horrible Bosses is going to get the cult following that Office Space had…and it’s not AS funny as Office Space, but it’s up there. It would be fun to have a “Work Sucks” themed movie night, where we watch Horrible Bosses, Office Space, and Thank You for Smoking.

It had a very interesting first half, but very disappointed with the 2nd half. Could have been much thoughtful and better
