Spring dresses for Pittsburgh happenings

21 Jan

Whether intentional or not, the emergence of spring designs while we’re still deep in the gloom of winter is just enough of a peek of sunshine to keep me from blasting out of this cold, cold state for a warmer clime.

I spent a few minutes window shopping on ASOS, and simply fell in love with some of their dresses, and daydreamed about the spring and summer ahead…

ASOS Midi Spot Dress with Tie Shoulders

This is perfect for a picnic in the park, or an evening with wine and snacks on Six Penn’s glorious deck.  It’s not office-friendly, but I probably should add a few pieces in my wardrobe that are not strictly for work.

ASOS Skater Dress in Spot Print

This dress could work for a casual day in the office, or better yet– at a music festival! (I’ve got high hopes for a great lineup from you, 3 Rivers Arts Festival! Don’t let me down!) With a pair of sandals and a pair of flat boots, this dress would last you all the way from spring into fall.

ASOS Midi Tea Dress with Pleat Lace Insert

Pittsburgh is home to a TON of great parties and benefits in the summer.  This dress is classy and a little edgy would go great for an evening at Attack Theatre’s Dirty Ball, Pittsburgh Zoo’s Summer Safari, or the Pittsburgh Magazine Best Restaurant Party.

ASOS Midi Striped Knit Dress

This dress just calls for an evening of films on Flagstaff Hill.

ASOS Midi Dress with Belt

This dress is so Kate Middleton, and I love the vibrant blue. It calls for a lovely tea at the Cafe at the Frick.

ASOS Skater Dress with Contrast Sleeves

This dress was the trickiest to pair up with a particular outing.  With the fun bright yellow and the conservative sleeves, it presents opportunities for so many different kinds of activities.   Instead of just picking one thing, this is what I’d do on my ideal summer day– morning coffee and some reading at Big Dog Coffee, a walk with the family through Homewood Cemetery and Frick Park, a delicious hearty lunch at Park Bruges followed by sweets at La Gourmandine (the brioche and pain aux raisins are my favorites), an afternoon nap, and an evening cheering on the Steel City Derby Demons followed by a hearty dinner of burgers and spiked shakes at Burgatory.
