A Mixed Bag Monday

18 Feb
  • Baby Beez’ daycare is closed so I am working from home today and looking forward to a dinner out at the HBH with the fam tonight. Hello carbs! Good thing I’ve got a personal training appointment today.
  • We are in the process of doing all the things we need to do to get Baby Beez her passport for our vacation this summer.  Do you KNOW what a pain it is to get a passport for a minor? Getting a passport-appropriate photo of Baby Beez is also on my list for today. I have no idea how that’s going to go. It will likely end in tears.  (You try to get a toddler to stand still in front of a white screen and make a neutral face.)
  • I really want to go on vacation and have sunshine and no-snow. Now. Vacation however is many months away.  What do you do to get through the long winter?

bio_photo-There is no such thing as networking with the “right” people. Everyone is the right person to get to know. Don’t try to network “upwards,” move up, down, left, right, all around.

-It’s all about the follow up!  You’ve wasted your efforts meeting people if you don’t continue beyond the event.

-Send handwritten notes!  They are memorable and effective.  They are the best 46 cent investment!

Just got a passport for our youngest. It’s really not that bad, as long as you and your husband can go to the passport office together, which can be tricky… Even was able to get his picture taken at Giant Eagle while I was doing the weekly shopping..AND it came in less than 2 weeks..Good luck!

That’s going to be the tricky part– I work downtown but my husband works in another neighborhood, and his job is koo-koo-bananas in terms of his day to day duties, so it’s hard to get a time during the week where we can all just make it to the office. We’ll just have to get it together though.

The Blawnox post office does it on Saturdays too–I know they are booked pretty far in advance, but you might want to give them a call..

Good luck with Baby Beez’s passport! I was just talking to someone at work last night about how we wanted to go to Toronto, and then the whole “Oh shit, passport” afterthought descended. So there’s yet another thing to add to the ever-growing To Do list!

To get through winter, I just try and make sure I always have something to look forward to. And I try to be mindful of the fact that there will be days in the summer when it’s 100 degrees and I’m somewhere without AC, and those thoughts remind me to appreciate these snow days for what they’re worth. Letting go of some of my winter hatred has helped it seem less rough.

You might not need a passport for a minor if you enter Canada by car. Look on the state dept website, there are all kinds of weird situations when you may/may not need a passport. Like we could take baby beez on the cruise with the passport, we just wouldn’t be able to take her off the boat in port. And as tempting as it is, they won’t let us just leave her behind in the cabin.
